This fake discount message is fooling people. Here’s how I spotted it.
I receive a message at 15:51 that nearly caught me off guard, and I want to share what I found before anyone else falls for it.
The message came from an unknown sender with no profile pic just a generic grey icon. No name. No business identity. Nothing.
The message said “Hello there! We appreciate you being part of our community. Enjoy 34% off on us, just because you’re awesome. Use code huntc 340 checkout “
The offer claimed to be a limited time offer and directed me to thehuntcoatcompany.co.uk to use the huntc 340 coupon code.
I almost clicked. Then I looked closer.
The Sender Has No Identity
This is the biggest red flag. The message came from no one. There’s no profile picture, no business name, no contact information nothing to indicate who sent this. A real business would show their brand, logo, and contact information. Messages promoting discounts are always a scam.
The Coupon Code Has a Space
The code “huntc 340” contains a space between “huntc” and “340”. Real coupon codes never have spaces. E-commerce systems require continuous strings like “huntc340” or “HUNTC340”. A code with a space will either fail at checkout or cause errors. This basic mistake exposes the scam.
The Discount Is an Odd Percentage
The offer promises 34% off which is an unusual number. Real businesses use standard discounts10%, 15%, 20%, 25%, 30%, or 50%. The random 34% suggests this was made up to sound specific but believable.
The Flattery Is a Manipulation Tactic
The message says “just because you’re awesome” which is designed to make you feel special and lower your guard. Real business give specific reason for discount loyalty rewards, seasonal sale, new customer offer. Vague compliment are manipulation, not marketing.
I Investigated Further
I search for “huntc” on Google and found thehuntcoatcompany.co.uk which appear to be a UK-base equestrian clothing company. However, I could not verify if this message actually came from them or if scammer are using their brand name.
I tried to apply the huntc 340 coupon code. The code with a space does not work as a valid coupon. This confirms the message is a scam using the Hunt Coat Company name to deceive people.

How to Protect Yourself
Do not click any link from anonymous sender. Do not visit websites linked in unsolicited messages. Do not use the huntc 340 code anywhere. Do not enter personal or payment information.
If you receive this message, delete it immediately. Block the sender. Report as spam. Warn your family and friends about this huntc 340 scam.
