This fake Start Fitness coupon message is fooling people. Here’s how I spotted it.
My friend share this story with me about a discount coupon he received. He was excited to purchase some fitness items for himself and thought this was a great deal. When I checked the message, I discovered this is a scammer code designed to track your payment information or steal personal data. Please avoid it completely.
I want to share what I found before anyone else falls for it.
My friend received a text message from phone number +1 (470) 154-3120 at 6:40 AM. It said “Unlock your exclusive discount code, start 046 Start Fitness! Simply apply code start 046 at checkout on Start Fitness. Visit https://startfitness.co.uk/.”
The text claim to offer an exclusive discount using code start 046 at Start Fitness website startfitness.co.uk. My friend was planning to buy fitness equipment and this discount seemed perfect for his purchase.
He almost click. Then I looked closer.
The Code Is Repeated Too Many Times
The message mentions “start 046” three times in just two sentences. It says “discount code, start 046 Start Fitness” then “apply code start 046” then “on Start Fitness”. This excessive repetition is a classic sign of poorly written scam message. Legitimate business write clear, concise promotional texts not repetitive spam.
The Phone Number Is From the US But Website Is UK
This is a major red flag. The sender number +1 (470) 154-3120 is from United States area code 470 (Georgia). But the website startfitness.co.uk is a UK domain. Why would a UK fitness store send promotional texts from an American phone number? Real UK businesses use UK-based numbers or verified shortcodes for their SMS marketing.
The Coupon Code Has a Space
The code “start 046” contain a space between “start” and “046”. Most legitimate coupon codes are written as continue string like “start046” or “START046” without spaces. Codes with spaces often cause errors at checkout or indicate the message was carelessly created.
No Discount Percentage Mentioned
The message say “exclusive discount code” but never tells you how much discount you will get. Is it 10% off? 20% off? 50% off? Real promotional message always clear state the discount amount to attract customer. Vague offer with no specific saving are suspicious.
I Investigate Further
I search for “Start Fitness” and found that startfitness.co.uk is actually a legitimate UK base sports and fitness retailer. However, this does not mean the text message is genuine.
Scammer often impersonate real brands to make their messages appear trust worthy. They use the name and website of legitimate business but send fake coupon code designed to:
- Track who clicks their links
- Harvest personal information
- Steal payment details through fake checkout pages
I searched for the start 046 coupon code and could not verify it as a legitimate Start Fitness promotion.

How to Protect Yourself

- Delete the message immediately

- Report as spam

If you or anyone you know received this start 046 coupon message from +1 (470) 154-3120, do not use it. My friend almost used this code to purchase fitness items for himself before I warned him. Scammers are impersonating Start Fitness to trick customers into clicking suspicious links.
The US phone number sending UK website promotions is a clear mismatch. Real Start Fitness promotions come through their official channels email newsletters, their website, or verified UK business numbers.
Anyone who click these link and enter payment information risk having their financial data stolen. Don’t make the same mistake my friend almost made.
