Positive and negative effects of gaming

As we have words and the opposite, so do every other thing that has a positive and negative effect on it. Gaming is not an exception. Right from the inception of video games, there has been so much concern about the possible effects of video gaming, the effects consist of both positive effect and the negative aspect of it. This is why I took the time to craft this article to illuminate your mind on the positive effects and the negative effects of gaming on your health and PC.

I will auspicate from the effects of gaming on your health, then I close by giving you the effects of gaming on your Personal Computer [PC]. Most times, so many people believe that gaming can lead to violence when a child’s mind is filled with violent acts he perpetrated on gaming. To some extent this is true but it’s not 100%. After the 1999 Columbine High School massacre, so many people believed that video gaming tends to influence the mind of gamers towards violence and other social vices, though it’s not scientifically proven, so many people believe in this. My submission here is nothing else other to guide your mind because you see violence every ranging from the internet, news media, social media, in the neighborhood, etc.

Other than that, there are other negative effects of heavy gaming on your health that I will list out here. They include musculoskeletal issues, vision problems, epileptic seizures, obesity, etc. I will explain the headings and give you some possible remedies.

  1. Musculoskeletal issues: This is a term used to refer to pains in the hands, wrist, back, and neck. Other musculoskeletal body parts are all-inclusive. Gamers at some point complain about pains on their wrists, neck, back, and hands. These come about when you sit at a spot for a long period of time playing games.

A study claims that daily computer used of 2 hours or more increases the risk for pain at the most anatomic sites. Sitting at a spot and playing games for hours will always result in pains in the Musculoskeletal system.

The best way to avoid is to play games for a limited time and carry on with other chores, this will help you to stretch the body. If you practice this, these issues are not for you.

  • Vision problems: The vision problem is self-explanatory. These are the problems related to vision. This is caused by excessive viewing of the screen. Excessive viewing of the computer screen can cause eye strain, like the cornea, pupil, and iris are not intended for mass viewing sessions of any electronic device. The excessive use of video games will result in headaches, dizziness, and a rare chance of vomiting.

On the other part, video games can also be used to improve various eye conditions. As I mentioned earlier that there is always a negative and positive effect on everything. Its believed and scientifically proven that gamers can focus more than those who are not gamers.

There was a rule that was created which is known as the 20 20 20 rule. This rule means that every 20 minutes, you look at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds.

  • Epileptic seizures: In early 1993, a boy was choked to death on his vomit during a seizure caused by the excessive playing of a video game, for this reason, the game console manufacturer required that epilepsy warnings be included in the instruction manuals for all games published for their consoles.

In another study carried out in 1994 by pediatrics, they found out that video games cause seizures to people who suffer from epilepsy. The remedy that was given for people who suffer from epileptic conditions was to stay 10 feet or more away from the TV set and they should put on sunglasses while playing.

  • Obesity: Reduction of physical activities will always lead to obesity. This is a natural phenomenon. The Body Mass Index always increases when there are fewer physical activities. A study shows that boys that spent less than 1.5 hours on the television and playing video games were 75.4% less likely to be overweight than those who spend more than 1.5 hours.

The best way to stay fit while playing video games is to always engage in diverse physical activities. This way, you will maintain a good physical body.

There are so many positive effects of gaming on your health which include vision correction [Note this should be strictly on the recommendation of a health physician], problems solving logic, multitasking, accuracy, etc.

These positive effects include high accuracy, perseverance, estimating skills, high level of reasoning, mapping, multi-tasking, high level of concentration, risk-taking, etc. There are so many benefits of video gaming on your health. I will now move to the effects of gaming on your PC, this is the talk of the town. Most people believe that gaming is not good for your PC. I will take the time to tell you everything you need to know about gaming and your computer.

Negative effects of gaming on your Personal Computer [PC]

There are so many beliefs about the effect of gaming on your PC, 70 percent believe that gaming does more harm than good to your PC, the remaining 30 percent believe that its all lie. The truth is that heavy gaming can harm your computer if the configurations are not up to the standard of the games. You may ask how can a game harm my computer? Its very simple, this can happen if your computer gets too hot if your computer over clocks, heavy gaming can lead to peripheral wears, etc.

Ways gaming can harm your computer:

  1. Don’t let your computer get too hot:  Prolong playing of video games can increase the temperature of your computer when this happens, it can cause burns on your PC’s motherboard and other components. Once this happens, your computer can never be in a normal state.

Before playing games on your PC, you must consider your system configurations to ascertain if it’s compatible with the game’s minimum requirements. I always advise people to go for gaming PCs that come with a very high gaming configuration.
  • Heavy gaming may lead to peripheral wears: this is brought about by when your peripheral parts such as speakers are working under a higher condition. For example, the speaker will just play at a reduced rate when on normal activities but when you are gaming, it will tend to play higher and harder in other to give you the best out of it. This can lead to wear.

  Remedy:

There is always a remedy for everything on planet earth. The truth is the fact that gaming can harm your pc if you don’t consider the minimum gaming requirements before installing.  The next thing is the fact that if your play games that are compatible with your pc, it won’t harm your system.

My kind advice is to always buy a gaming PC, this way, you will enjoy playing games on your PC, or you can buy a PlayStation game console or any other gaming console you can afford. You can do well to check out the price of Sony PlayStation in Nigeria here.
