About CREDO Mobile
CREDO Mobile is an American mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) and self-described "mobile carrier with a conscience" that pioneered the integration of progressive political activism and philanthropy into a telecommunications business model.
Originally founded as Working Assets in 1985 by three progressive activists Michael Kieschnick, Peter Barnes, and Laura Scher during the height of the Reagan era, the company began long before the concepts of "social enterprise" or "corporate social responsibility" became mainstream.
The initial product was a credit card (Working Assets Credit Card, still operating today) that donated to progressive nonprofit groups with every transaction, featuring an innovative ballot process allowing customers to vote on how to distribute the raised funds a democratic approach that remains central to CREDO's operations today.
